Superficial

Superficial - Jina Wallwork

She looks directly into the features of my face and, for a moment, I imagine that she can see me.  I stare into my reflection within her eyes. The form I see is unfamiliar and I question my own identity as I struggle to understand her gaze. Who is this alien she believes me to be? I attempt to reveal myself, vulnerable and honest, in the words I speak and the actions I take. The superficiality within her perception feeds like a parasite, devouring her ability to see. I cannot deepen this connection because I am invisible to her. She connects to who she believes me to be and that sustains a constant distance from who I actually am. I have finally come to accept that I will always be a stranger, whether I am present in her life or not.

Keys

Keys - Jina Wallwork
Hope strengthens his imagination and disguises the truth. There is space for him to believe that she will return to his side and he can ignore the words that have been spoken. He imagines her apology, begging and desperate, while he calmly withholds his reply.  His view of his own self importance stands like a castle built by his own hands. His ego can withstand any storm created by a woman that he has labeled as irrational. As she returns to his door, she knocks politely on the half that belongs to him. Her perception no longer recognizes this location as home. The time it takes for him to answer is extended by his own performance. He pretends that he hasn't been waiting and he disguises how important he believes her to be. Perhaps, if he had shown more integrity the relationship would be strong. If he had shown his feelings she would have known how much she is desired. He answers the door waiting for her to speak the words that exist within his fantasy. She looks away, sighs with emotional exhaustion, while she searches her pockets. She gives him the keys that she has no inclination to use. She has walked out and now she asks him to lock the door behind her. His fantasy crumbles, but his castle still stands. Shocked and devastated he labels her as crazy in order to protect his own ego. These keys cut deep into his emotions until they reach his anger. There he finds a million ways to blame her for all that has occurred. He is shielding himself from the pain and the sorrow. However, he is also restricting his ability to learn from the experience. Through the allocation of blame we refuse to grow.

Solstice

Solstice - Jina Wallwork

Relax and watch the great dance of the cosmos. You cannot hold on to each moment. Time is beyond our control so kiss each second and let it go. We are part of something much larger than ourselves. Contemplate your role within the great dance. View yourself within the enormity of all of existence. True humility isn't a belief in your own inferiority. You can be humble in believing that you are special, if it is accompanied by the understanding that we are all of great importance. The sun is a piece of this great design and so are you.

Confrontation

Confrontation - Jina Wallwork

Their hatred escalates until the world burns at their feet. Conflict feeds on their anger until it becomes too large to be contained by their actions. Revenge has entered a stage of perpetual motion and has obtained a life of its own. There were many occasions when peace asked to enter this space, although those opportunities were forgotten long ago. Conflict destroys their world and they have become like animals fighting over the scraps of what remains. They have shaped the world in which they live. Peace was rejected and forgotten, but it waits patiently within their hearts. It waits for their exhaustion and it anticipates a moment when they will reflect upon their lives and ask if this is really how they want to live. Peace cannot force itself into the world they have created, however it can be hunted and rediscovered by those who need it the most.

A Green Man

A Green Man - Jina Wallwork

The jealous man feels passion without the presence of a deeper love. Passion speaks with high volume and overwhelms any words she would choose to speak. Jealous, he doesn't explore her heart. love would encourage him to listen to the choices she has made. Love would guide him to understand her heart even though it would condemn his own. Jealousy is the act of holding another person close, because you place a greater value on your own needs. Passion asks that he ignores her sadness and enhance only his own desires. Love quietly whispers that it is time to let go.

Grateful for the Moon

Grateful for the Moon - Jina Wallwork

Gratitude is like the moon. It lights up the darkness and allows you to see the gifts that are present in your life. If you're not appreciative then your life will seem empty when it is full beyond measure. Gratitude creates a perspective that can see beauty in the darkest of places. Every thank you I speak highlights a point of joy within my own existence. I am appreciative of all that gratitude has given me, because it has taught me to see with true clarity.

The Sleeping Giant

The Sleeping Giant - Jina Wallwork

The sleeping giant feasts upon his own dreams. All limitations fall away and he can stride across the oceans with the greatest of ease. He can fly above the clouds and touch every star before he falls to the earth. He awakes and wraps himself within the warmth of the dirt. He is married to the soil of his homeland. He is only a traveler within his dreams.

Scars

Scars - Jina Wallwork

Within my scars is a memory of the path that I have walked. I have been sculpted by every cut. Experience has shaped me into the person I am now. I was not passively allowing myself to become distorted and jaded by every trauma. Instead, I gave myself the space to learn from every blade. I was capable of seeing the gift within every sadness and that vision has served me well. I have found great strength through accepting the past. Hope has given me the courage to let go of aspects of the past that don't respect who I am now. Optimism gave me a belief in the future and told me that my life would be full. I realized the substance within my hopes when I moved beyond the past and attracted new energy into the present. Life is beautiful; my scars are beautiful.

Moving On

Moving On - Jina Wallwork

I can step forward without hesitation. Time will not offer a reprieve from its constant motion. I consider the past and I try to comprehend why things didn't work out. I can't repair the past relationship, although I still find myself considering the different paths I could have taken. If I have learned from the experience then I will not repeat the same mistakes. I can step into the future only if I understand my own past. If I charge full steam ahead without thought or understanding then I will not greet a new future. Superficially it will seem new and different, however this will only be an illusion. As the surface is peeled away I will find myself struggling with the same problems. If I can't understand my own role within all that has occurred then I will continue with the same behaviors and this will lead to the same outcomes. When you don't learn from your personal history, your past and your future become almost identical.

Wish

Wish - Jina Wallwork
I wish for awareness. I want the clarity of vision that allows me to appreciate all that I have without asking for more. I am thankful for the blessings that have become part of my everyday life. I am grateful for many things, although my thoughts can still drift towards greater possibilities. In the simple pleasures that life has given me I already hold the furthest of stars.

A World of Lies

A World of Lies - Jina Wallwork

An ocean of salt touches each word he speaks. He reveals a world of imagination and expects me to accept it as fact. I cannot believe this pretender to be a man of substance and truth. My memory is long and he will need to seek a believer to replace the skeptic I have become. I remember every lie and I am haunted by the laughter that must have been present. I have greeted ridicule with strength, however I will not choose to be humiliated. He can't build a future with deception. His world will crumble as the truth bleeds into the illusion. He will believe that honesty has poisoned everything, although it has merely revealed the toxicity that was already present. Today his lies seem as ridiculous as dinosaurs in Loch Ness or dragons in Brooklyn. Yesterday they seemed to be true, because I believed in him and I ignored the nature of the stories that he told me. Within a moment the truth can change everything for better or worse. He belongs within my past and I will not invite him into my future. I will miss the man I believed him to be. I can build a brighter future without the man that stands before me. The truth has set me free.

Kiss the Ocean

Kiss the Ocean - Jina Wallwork

The Waves

The Waves - Jina Wallwork
The waves create shapes and structures that exist for a moment and then fall away. I watch the constant movement of the sea while I contemplate my own stillness. Obtaining peace of mind is necessary in order to move forward. Anger and regret are emotions that chain us to the past. Change begins from within and then breaks through to the outside world. Carry the wisdom that has been obtained from your experience, it will serve you well in your future. If you step forward from a position of inner peace then you will grow into the future; if you step forward with anger and regret then any change will only be superficial.

Hourglass

Hourglass - Jina Wallwork
The sun caresses the edge of the glass as it slides beneath the horizon. Darkness casually greets the world and the stars reveal a glimpse of the vastness of space.
