Pink Tree

'Pink Tree' by Jina Wallwork

The landscape is reduced to basic structures. It is abstracted to simplicity and from a range of colors few are chosen. I can simplify the landscape by only focusing on specific aspects. I focus on the basics of form and structure. I choose to disregard other elements such as, how the light hits each branch. To focus is an act of mental discipline. It would be easy to be swept away with a complete view. It would be overwhelming to depict the complete truth within a single picture. The enormity of viewing a perfect universe, expressing itself through the structure of a tree; this is an enormous truth.

This is also why realism often fails in its depiction. Instead of revealing truth it simply reveals what you expect to see. It does not ask you to see things differently. Realism conforms to your vision through the recreation of an illusion; you believe that you are seeing something other than paint on canvas. It is as though you are telling someone what they expect to hear. This act always encourages others to believe you, until the truth reveals itself.

The truth of an image exists on many levels. Therefore the same image could be painted in many different ways and each would contain integrity.

Your Eyes

'Your Eyes' by Jina Wallwork

Your eyes see me as I move and speak. They reveal a physical understanding of who I am. You can see how I interact with the world and others. Can you fully know who I am solely through observation? An accurate understanding would be based on my ability to speak. Your eyes would measure me in relation to my ability to express my thoughts and feelings, and my ability to reveal myself without fear of being ignored or ridiculed. My expression could never be perfect enough to reveal my complete truth. In order to see me clearly, you would need to use my eyes and not your own.

Sight

'Sight' by Jina Wallwork

Sight reveals so much, but you can never believe that you see all things through your eyes alone. Your eyes do not contain instinct. Your intuition perceives a great deal. Eyes are assisted by intuition and conscious understanding. Without these our vision is incomplete.

In Touch

'In Touch' by Jina Wallwork

Does a leaf belong to a single tree? It looks so familiar. Can this leaf be separate from others of its kind? The connection between each of them is stronger than pattern or design. They share the soul of the universe. Each leaf is a small detail that is connected through something powerful and colossal. Each is in touch with every other leaf, because the universe is in touch with itself.

Meditation by Annie Taylor

'Meditation' by Annie Taylor

'Meditation' is an image that contains beautiful structures. They exist within the shapes of the trees and also within the shapes of the shadows. Those shadows greatly contribute to the circular composition that draws you into the image. Annie Taylor has created a piece that places the viewer along the path gazing at their destination. It is a beautiful image with soft natural colors and complicated structures.

The Conversation

'The Conversation' by Jina Wallwork

As we speak the energy of our words intertwine. Words are powerful. This power lies in the intentions they hold, not within a phrase or a series of letters. They have a purpose that exists beyond the conversation. Our words exist on the surface, labeling the energy of what is being said. They describe a feeling or thought, presuming that we have no understanding of the truth behind the words. If we could see the energy of our conversation, we could watch it take form. We could see it connect and embrace. This energy would form a sphere that is equal and balanced, because our words are spoken from a place of love. You are more than the words that you speak. They signpost your energy but they do not reveal its inner beauty. You are the love that you feel. Words could never fully portray love.
